Bad Economy=Clean Environment

Remember during the 2008 election when President Bill Clinton dropped this little bomb when stumping for Hillary?

“We just have to slow down our economy and cut back our greenhouse gas emissions ’cause we have to save the planet for our grandchildren.”

Flash forward to today’s news on the projected carbon emissions drop.

Global carbon emissions are expected to post their biggest drop in more than 40 years this year as the global recession froze economic activity and slashed energy use around the world.

The decline comes as political leaders are struggling to come up with a common approach to dealing with climate change.

The main factor behind this year’s drop in emissions is the slowdown in industrial activity and trade around the world, according to a study due to be released in November by the International Energy Agency.

Yep, nothing like a good global recession to clean up the environment. We’re sure the folks at the U.N. meeting today will be patting themselves on the back for this one.
