Last week’s shooting death of a radical Detroit imam as FBI agents tried to arrest him is unfortunate. Responsible parties should study what happened to identify any lessons in how to avoid a repeat occurrence.
Sadly, those lessons are not the ones being emphasized by Islamic advocacy groups that present themselves as moderate. While many details remain undisclosed, basic facts about the incident are public and show that Luqman Abdullah’s actions triggered the events that led to his death. Thus, he is a poor example for alleging FBI malfeasance.

The imam had driven from Detroit to northern Virginia to raise money for a jailed friend, a convicted cop killer.
“If you study the case you’ll see that it’s a conspiracy,” the imam said. “If you study what went on with him, you’ll say, ‘How in the world is he in jail?’”
But it was what Luqman Abdullah said on the way to that March 2008 fundraiser that helped bring the FBI to his door on Wednesday in what proved to be a fatal confrontation.
Despite his religious motivation and his use of a mosque to conduct armed training and store weapons, critics say the FBI never should have brought religion into the case.

Congressional Group Comes to CAIR’s Defense

Earlier this week, NewsRealblog reported that four Republican lawmakers, led by Rep. Sue Myrick of North Carolina (the others being Trent Franks of Arizona, Paul Broun of Georgia and John Shadegg of Arizona), were asking Congressional Sergeant-at-Arms Wilson Livingood to investigate whether the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a U.S. non-profit Muslim activist group associated with Islamist terrorist organizations such as Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood, and al-Qaeda, has placed their operatives as “interns” on the staffs of members of targeted national security-related Congressional committees, including the Intelligence, Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees. Myrick’s group is right to be concerned. Since the September 11 attacks, 15 CAIR officials including its Executive Director, Nihad Awad and its founding Chairman, Omar Ahmad, have been either convicted or investigated on terror charges, or have fled the country. In 2008, CAIR was named as a co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation terrorism case in Dallas, Texas, which led to guilty verdicts on 108 charges based on funneling more than $12 million to Hamas. Although they claim to be a benign group with no aim other than to protect the rights of all Muslim-Americans, CAIR’s leaders have gone on record as to what their real intentions are. Ibrahim Hooper, CAIR’s Communications Director, wants to be perfectly clear: Ibrahim Hooper: I wouldn’t want to create the impression that I wouldn’t like the government of the United States to be Islamic sometime in the future. CAIR’s Executive Director goes further: Nihad Awad: Muslims in America are in the best position to show Islam and to show action and to show vision, not only for a Muslim school how it should be run, but for the entire society — how it should be run. Who better can lead America than Muslims? CAIR’s Founding Chairman, goes further still: Omar Ahmad: Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Quran should be the highest authority in America. Republicans aren’t alone in their distrust of CAIR. Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer (NY), one of the most liberal members in the Senate, went as far as to request that an FBI ban on cooperating with CAIR imposed last year “should be government-wide policy.” Now, in light of Sen. Myrick’s request for an investigation, prompted, in part, by allegations put forth in a new book titled Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld that’s Conspiring to Islamize America by Paul Sperry and Paul David Gaubatz, CAIR’s backers are rallying to its defense. And who has taken up the mantle as protector of the reputation of CAIR? Is it Hamas? The Muslim Brotherhood? Al-Qaeda? The Saudi Government (CAIR’s main source of funding)? Wrong on all counts. It is the United States Congress itself that has risen to the challenge! Democracy Now!’s Amy Goodman reports that the “Congressional TriCaucus,” a group composed of the Congressional Black Caucus, the Asian Caucus and the Hispanic Caucus, has raised its voice against any investigation of CAIR. Rep. Keith Ellison (Minn.)–the first Muslim to be elected to the House of Representatives and staunch supporter of the Nation of Islam–was first off the line as the TriCaucus spokesman: Rep. Keith Ellison: The idea that we should investigate Muslim interns as spies is a blow to the very principle of religious freedom that our founding fathers cherished so dearly.” If anything, we should be encouraging all Americans to engage in the U.S. political process; to take part in, and to contribute to, the great democratic experiment that is America. In fact, even the thought of investigating CAIR is so repugnant to Ellison and the TriCaucus, that they put it in the same category as a McCarthy-style witch-hunt: Rep. Keith Ellison: These charges smack of America sixty years ago, where lists of ‘un-American’ agitators were identified. We should be affirming the importance of diversity and tolerance for all interns and staff who serve in Congress, without suspicion of being identified as spies. The idea that we should investigate Muslim interns as spies is a blow to the very principle of religious freedom that our Founding Fathers cherished so dearly.
The barbarians, as they say, are no longer at the gate. Somebody has opened the door and let them inside.

[PREVIOUSLY: On Friday, we presented the undercover video from the 2008 CAIR Annual banquet showing that the "Interests Section of Iran" - the defacto embassy of Iran, a state sponsor of terrorism as named by the U.S. State Department - was thanked by Master of Ceremonies Ahmed Bedier for their support. And the "Interests Section of Iran" was also listed in the "Thanks To" section on page 20 in the 2008 printed program.] October 24 – tonight’s the big night for the 15th annual fundraiser for CAIR – the Council on American Islamic Relations, named by the Justice Department in 2007 as an unindicted terrorism finance co-conspirator because of their ties to Hamas, a terrorist organization. This event should be of particular interest to Mr. Stuart A. Levey, Under Secretary in the Treasury Department’s Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence – as well as to Attorney General Eric Holder at the Department of Justice – because of the apparent support for CAIR’s 2008 annual fundraiser by the “Interests Section of Iran.” Members of Congress should also note two matters of concern from the 2008 annual fundraiser, now that Big Government has presented documentary evidence that the “Interests Section of Iran” attended the event: First, the attendance as keynote speaker by Representative Keith Ellison (D-MN), whose remarkable statements were recorded by our investigative team; Second, the letters of support in CAIR’s 2008 fundraiser’s printed program from nine members of Congress, who chose to associate themselves with CAIR – and also with the foreign supporters and attendees at the banquet, including the “Interests Section of Iran.” Remember that by the date of the 14th annual fundraiser – November 23, 2008 - over a year had already passed since federal prosecutors had named CAIR as an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation terrorism finance trial, because of CAIR’s association with Hamas, a terrorist organization. These nine members of Congress chose to ignore federal prosecutors’ actions. Ironically, the next day – November 24, 2008 – the Holy Land defendants were found guilty on all 108 counts. First: Ellison’s keynote speech. He unfortunately chose to shift from an entirely legitimate plea to the attendees to run for political office, to a questionable – possibly quite disturbing – challenge to target children – “to shape all those young minds” – presumably with the agenda of the event he was addressing, an event attended and apparently supported by the “Interests Section of Iran.” Our investigative team was forced to record Ellison’s remarks on audio, rather than video, because our earlier videos from the beginning of the banquet had already been posted to Youtube by the the time Ellison spoke and alerted CAIR that we were taping. CAIR’s staffers were walking among the tables, looking for camcorders. Here’s the transcript of the excerpt from Ellison’s speech: “We need you to run for those school boards. We need you to run for those park boards. You know, I don’t know about your state or your city, but in the city of Minneapolis where I come from, the largest daycare provider in the city of Minneapolis is the Park Board. Think about that. Don’t you want to be in a position to shape all those young minds? Go run for the Park Board.” Here’s how Congressman Keith Ellison may have wanted “to shape all those young minds”…In 2006, Ellison was exposed for his long association with the anti-semitic Nation of Islam and Louis Farrakhan, based on an investigative report published by the Weekly Standard: “Louis Farrakhan’s First Congressman.” And Fox News reported that Ellison’s hajj trip to Mecca was paid for by the Minnesota Muslim American Society, whose fatwa prompted Muslim taxi drivers at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport to refuse to transport passengers carrying liquor or accompanied by guide dogs. Congress should ask Representative Ellison to repudiate his attendance at the 2008 CAIR event, given CAIR’s status as an unindicted co-conspirator in the terrorism finance trial and the FBI’s subsequent cutting of ties; and to repudiate his tacit approval of the attendance at his speech by the “Interests Section of Iran”; and to clarify whether his remarks about “shaping all those young minds” refer to teaching children the agendas – which he has previously espoused – of the Nation of Islam or the Muslim American Society. But Ellison wasn’t alone in his support for the CAIR event, although he may have been the only Congressman who knew that the “Interests Section of Iran” attended the event. Eight other members of Congress sent in letters of support, published in the 2008 CAIR program, which you can view here. Here are a few excerpts from those letters, in the order presented in the printed program: Lois Capps (D-CA): “extend greetings to everyone gathered for CAIR’s 14th annual banquet…I look forward to working together in the future.” Tom Davis (R-VA) (now retired): “As you gather to share ideas, create alliance and network with one another, may you continue to foster the principles of brotherhood, equality, mutual assistance, religious tolerance, peace and justice…” Keith Ellison (D- MN) (Ellison is the first Muslim member of Congress): “I would like to salute the work you have done over the last fourteen years defending civil rights, empowering American Muslims and enlightening Americans to a more accurate portrayal of Islam.” Michael M. Honda (D-CA): “It is a great pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all who are gathered for the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) 14th annual banquet….CAIR has worked diligently with Members of Congress to educate and advocate…” Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX): “The Council’s mission is vital…an essential organization…I am grateful that I have such friends…the achievements and goals of CAIR are commendable and I thank you for the contributions made to the great state of Texas and the nation…I look forward to the continued success of your efforts.” Betty McCollum (D-MN): “Thank you for your work!” James P. Moran (D-VA): “I wish CAIR success in the coming year in its efforts…” Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ): “Since 2003, the Council on American Islamic Relations’ New Jersey Chapter has encouraged progressive dialogue throughout my district and throughout many New Jersey communities. The New Jersey Chapter’s hard work does not go unrecognized by this office. Once again, I want to offer my heartfelt congratulations…to wish you the same success in your future you have had in your past.” Loretta Sanchez (D-CA): “I would like to thank CAIR for its exemplary achievements…” So, to sum up: Tonight is the 15th Annual banquet for the Hamas-linked, unindicted co-conspirator in terrorism finance CAIR. Last year at the 14th Annual event – November 23, 2008 – the “Interests Section of Iran” attended, and Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) presented the keynote speech. Man in Ohio terror case gets 20 years in prison – Townhall.com: One of three men convicted of plotting to recruit and train terrorists to kill U.S. soldiers in Iraq was sentenced Wednesday to 20 years in prison. Mohammad Amawi, who had faced a maximum sentenced of life in prison, will get credit for the three years he’s already spent in custody and will be under lifetime supervision when released, U.S. District Judge James Carr said. Amawi and two other men of Middle Eastern descent met in Toledo about five years ago and began plotting and training to help insurgents in Iraq, the FBI said during their trial last year. Talking about killing troops isn’t something that’s protected by free speech, Carr said. It’s not just “idle chatter or fantasy,” he said. The other men convicted, Marwan El-Hindi and Wassim Mazloum, were scheduled to be sentenced later Wednesday. They both faced up to life in prison. Second Toledo man in US terror case sentenced to 12 years in prison – WTOL: A federal judge in Ohio has sentenced a second man to 12 years in prison for a terrorist plot that the government said targeted U.S. troops. Marwan El-Hindi and two other men were found guilty last year of plotting to recruit and train terrorists to kill American soldiers in Iraq. El-Hindi was also sentenced to an additional 1 1/2 years on an unrelated fraud and theft conviction. He was sentenced Wednesday afternoon in U.S. District Court, following the morning’s sentencing of Mohammad Amawi. Third man sentenced to 8 years, 4 months in Toledo terrorism case A third Toledo-area man, Wassim Mazloum, was sentenced to eight years, four months in prison Wednesday night in U.S. District Court for his involvement in a plot to kill U.S. troops overseas. Muslim Democrat Representative Keith Ellison Blames Western Colonialism On Islamist Attacks On Civilization

October 20, 2009 – Representative Keith Ellison (D-MN) who was first elected to Congress in 2006, recently gave the keynote speech at a forum in Washington, D.C. The forum, "Engaging The Muslim World – Challenges and Opportunities" was sponsored by the U.S. Institute Of Peace (USIP). In his speech, Ellison claimed that "violent extremism with a Muslim veneer is essentially a post-colonial reaction" and the result of a "political environment rooted in grievance." Ellison claims that the Jihadists are engaging in worldwide terrorism because they’re angry about Western colonialism in the past. This is wrong. Ellison clearly hasn’t studied the violent history of Islam. Ellison is portraying a false view of why the Jihadists hate Western Civilization. The Jihadists are killing "infidels" (all non-Muslims) because the Quran (supposedly the revelation of Allah to Muhammad) demands that faithful Muslims kill or enslave anyone who refuses to acknowledge Allah or submit to Islam. The Jihadists have waged relentless warfare against the West since the 7th Century when Muhammad sent his armies to conquer, kill and enslave. They have never needed "colonialism" as an excuse to kill infidels. They kill because they’re told to kill as part of their religious duty. Killing non-believers in Islamic theology is a sacrament – like taking communion or being baptized in the Christian faith. In the past centuries, there were two great waves of Islamic imperialism. The first wave of Islamic invasions began in 622 with Muhammad leading his armies to slaughter infidels. The second wave began in 1071 and lasted until 1683 when an Islamic army was destroyed at the Battle of Vienna (Austria) by a coalition of Polish, Prussian and Austrian forces. The Christian victory at the Battle of Vienna saved Europe from Islamic slaughter and enslavement. The Quran tells faithful Muslims that they must kill non-Muslims or enslave them. In addition, Islamic Shariah law is to be imposed on the whole world. Thus, Islam has always been an aggressive, merciless political system that seeks to dominate the world through the sword. According to Ellison, "… the United States has more Muslims than many countries that are considered Muslim countries … the United States is part of the Muslim world." What does this mean? In Islamic theology, the entire world is to be forcibly brought under the domination Islam so the world will be at "peace." Is this Ellison’s hope for the future? Last year, Ellison took a Hajj to Mecca. His trip was paid for by the Muslim American Society, which is a branch of the Muslim Brotherhood in America. The Muslim Brotherhood is a group that has declared war on the United States and Western Civilization. In fact, a leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, Mohamed Akram, wrote a memo describing how his group was determined to destroy the West. According to Akram, Muslims in America "must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and ‘sabotaging’ its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions. Without this level of understanding, we are not up to this challenge and have not prepared ourselves for Jihad yet. It is a Muslim’s destiny to perform Jihad and work wherever he is and wherever he lands until the final hour comes, and there is no escape from that destiny except for those who chose to slack." Is Rep. Ellison aware of this memo by Mohamed Akram? If so, does he care? Is he helping to sabotage the West as a Member of Congress? Is he loyal to the U.S. Constitution or loyal to Shariah law, which demands absolute submission to the demands of the Quran? It is instructive to know that Ellison was sworn into office by putting his hand on the Quran, not on the Bible. He is the first U.S. Representative in history to do so. The Quran he used was Thomas Jefferson’s copy. According to Ellison: "The very foundation of our nation, the authors of our Constitution impressed, is religious freedom, and the use of Jefferson’s Quran shows that the founders not only knew of the Quran but also used it." Wrong. Jefferson read the Quran to understand the kind of merciless Muslims the new United States was going to be dealing with in the future. He and John Adams were dealing with the Muslim Barbary pirates who were seizing ships and enslaving the ship crews in the Strait of Gibraltar. Jefferson was studying his enemy’s war manual. Doesn’t Ellison know this? A simple Google search on the history of Thomas Jefferson’s Quran would have told him. Given Congressman Ellison’s association with radical Islamic groups, it is hard to believe that he knows so little about the radical goals of the Jihadists. A good first step in separating "good" non-violent Muslims from the terrorist variety would be for people like Mr. Ellison to step forward and condemn the violent ones by name. If a Congressman is too frightened or too corrupted by Saudi money to do this — how can we expect mere citizens to stand up to the Jihadists? |
